Reed Family Stories

Family and friends,

I have added this page to include stories in my ever changing, ever growing web site about our family. I will add stories that have been included in ancestry.com and stories that are from reliable sources and that person's name will be disclosed. If you have a story you would like to have added please e-mail me at mphillips51@kc.rr.com    Stories  selected will be at my discretion.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Rhonda Peters-Phillips      web site owner

As I work through and listen to the many stories I 've been told, the ones that touch me the most are the momma's that lived through the loss of one or many babies. One that I think of often is my Grandma's loss of her babies Ida Ruth. Ida was born 3 day before my mom's 8th birthday, Nov 1, 1937. Ida Ruth was my grandma's last baby and born with her intestines on the outside of her stomach. In 1937 surgery was not an option. When mom told me the story  of her baby sister, her memories were most vivid. She remembers her mothers saddness that followed her the rest of her life. I don't know if my Grandma knew the baby wouldn't live or held out hope that some one could help her. She kept watch over the baby and the other children were allowed to look at the baby but they never got to hold her, Ida passed away on March 17, 1938.                                            Rhonda Peters-Phillips  (as told to me by Thelma Reed-Peters)

Reed, Hezekiah.Private, Capt. Nathan Alden's co., Col. Edward Mitchell's regt.; service, 16 days; company marched to Rhode Island under command of Lieut. John Whitman on the alarm of Dec. 8, 1776.

My mother moved in with me and Mike on Christmas Day 2018. She is 89 years old and has dementia, although in the good moments I like to ask lots of questions!! Somethings I know are true and others maybe have gotten a bit  confused in the relay of information. Mom talked about how her dad (Fred Reed) and his dad  (William Reed) having a truck, they ran a produce route to homes in Omaha, NE.  Her mother Alma Mewius-Reed was a wonderful seamstress. She made most of the clothes they wore from the flour sacks. But I was surprised to find that Grandma made my mom's wedding dress. It was beautiful! When we moved to the farm our house was very tiny. Mom thought her dress would be safe it she stored it in the barn!!!! (not one of her best ideas!)

Mom's parents had their first in door bath installed the night before mom's wedding...
