Family and friends,

I have added this page to include stories in my ever changing, ever growing web site about our family. I will add stories that have been included in ancestry.com and stories that are from reliable sources and that person's name will be disclosed. If you have a story you would like to have added please e-mail me at mphillips51@kc.rr.com

Stories selected will be at my discretion.       Rhonda Peters-Phillips      web site owner

Clinkingbeard Family Stories

Good Morning.  A lot has been happening in the last several days. Things I have been finding out may never have concerned you.  But here goes.

There are scores of Clinkingbeards all over in the mid west, particularly in Eastern Oklahoma. Some have intermarried with the local Indians but none of this family has ever  made any connection with any of them. There is a Clinkingbeard Family Website . One interested lady in Michigan has e mailed me several times for information regarding my Great Grand dad John Reed Clinkingbeard. He was Grandpa Jim’s dad. That separated her from any of the Northern clan which split away during the Civil War.

As children, as long as I can remember , we knew of Uncle Joe who died of a heart attack on the streets of Bakersfield Mo. and Uncle Ed whom we visited regularly, brothers of my Grand dad James Madison(Jim)

. No mention was ever made in our presence of a third brother Henry Reed born 1862  and died in 1927 in Oklahoma. He had married a 15 year old Mary Elizabeth McCarty here in Baxter County. She gave birth to her first of eleven children at age 16.  Those eleven  raised families . The boys of course spread the Clinkingbeard  name over Eastern Okla.

Uncle Matt,Dad’s brother married Aunt Sally who had several kids and was deserted by her husband, They moved to Braggs Ok. Those boys were never adopted but took the name “Clinkenbeard” and have no biological connection. The Clinkingbeards of Ava  are from Uncle Bedford or Matt out of Laclede Mo. who were Union soldiers, not descendants of John Reed who is buried here at Athens.

This  for your information only,    Mary was a faithful family historian who likely(as the rest of us) may never have heard of Uncle Henry. Share

He married Dianah Rimmer in 1850 in Laclede, Missouri. They had nine children in 17 years. He died on February 19, 1893, in Baxter, Arkansas, at the age of 71.

When Robert Edley Clinkingbeard was born on October 25, 1789, in Greene, North Carolina, his father, John, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 26. He married Hannah E. Reed on June 7, 1811, in Sevier, Tennessee. They had 10 children in 26 years. He died on July 1, 1849, in Laclede, Missouri, at the age of 59.

Uncle Wayne,

As you know I have compiled a lot of information on the Clinkingbeard
family. Usually it is just the dates or an old will, it is a treat for
me to hear the stories and to apply them to the names I know so well. I
thank you for doing this .  Love, Rhonda
